{"id":131,"date":"2011-02-17T15:18:36","date_gmt":"2011-02-17T23:18:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jsgreene.com\/blog\/?p=131"},"modified":"2011-02-17T15:18:36","modified_gmt":"2011-02-17T23:18:36","slug":"old-travel-drawing-finally-painted","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jsgreene.com\/blog\/?p=131","title":{"rendered":"Old travel drawing, finally painted"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The other day I was rummaging through some of my old paintings and drawings, and I found a line drawing I did when I visited Scotland in 2007. \u00a0I was visiting a friend from seminary who was doing a field education stint and <a href=\"http:\/\/rumoursofangels.blogspot.com\/\">two<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonvarwell.co.uk\/\">friends<\/a> I met through the internet through another friend through seminary.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-155\" href=\"http:\/\/www.jsgreene.com\/blog\/?attachment_id=155\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-155\" title=\"Alongside the River Kelvin\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.jsgreene.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/scotland_river-243x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"243\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>Anyway, I was visiting in Glasgow and was out for a walk one day, alongside the river (<a title=\"The River Kelvin\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kelvin_(river)\">Kelvin<\/a>, I think). \u00a0My recollection is that it was a really beautiful day out, even though I was there in early March. \u00a0I think I took a picture of my walk and then, from the tiny display on my digital camera, tried to draw and paint it (I brought my <a title=\"Travel Watercolor Kit\" href=\"http:\/\/www.jsgreene.com\/watercolors\/still_life\/travel_watercolor_set.html\">travel watercolor<\/a><a title=\"Travel Watercolor Kit\" href=\"http:\/\/www.jsgreene.com\/watercolors\/still_life\/travel_watercolor_set.html\"> kit<\/a> with me). \u00a0I drew it, but did not end up painting it.<\/p>\n<p>Hence, the other day, I found a fully drawn and unpainted piece. \u00a0I decided that I&#8217;d try to paint it in, as best as I recalled, trying to use my little value sketch as a guide (I no longer know where that picture is&#8230;may have disappeared when my old computer&#8217;s hard drive failed).<\/p>\n<p>I didn&#8217;t spend too much time on the painting&#8230;had difficulty getting the colors I wanted and trying to distinguish between all of the foliage and trying to get the river to look watery. \u00a0I think that the river came out not too bad. \u00a0I have debated going in and making more darks and stuff&#8230;it might make the painting better, but it also might make it too overpainted. \u00a0If I do anything to this, I&#8217;ll post an update!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The other day I was rummaging through some of my old paintings and drawings, and I found a line drawing I did when I visited Scotland in 2007. \u00a0I was visiting a friend from seminary who was doing a field &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jsgreene.com\/blog\/?p=131\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[18,56,242,300,310,358,360,378],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.jsgreene.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/131"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.jsgreene.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.jsgreene.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.jsgreene.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.jsgreene.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=131"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.jsgreene.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/131\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.jsgreene.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=131"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.jsgreene.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=131"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.jsgreene.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=131"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
