{"id":129,"date":"2011-02-07T08:26:39","date_gmt":"2011-02-07T16:26:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jsgreene.com\/blog\/?p=129"},"modified":"2011-02-07T08:26:39","modified_gmt":"2011-02-07T16:26:39","slug":"first-watercolor-painting-in-2011-purple-hyacinth-bulb","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jsgreene.com\/blog\/?p=129","title":{"rendered":"First Watercolor Painting in 2011: Purple Hyacinth Bulb"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Since I don&#8217;t have a regular studio space, I don&#8217;t paint regularly. \u00a0Towards the end of Christmas time, I painted a lot &#8212; an Easter painting for Glenmary (that post will come out in April, since the painting is secret until then), a Christmas present for Bonnie, and the Farmer&#8217;s Market painting. \u00a0There may have even been more, but those are the ones I can remember. \u00a0After all of those, I cleaned my stuff off of our dining room table and haven&#8217;t painted since.<\/p>\n<p>When I get into these spurts of not painting, it&#8217;s difficult to get back into the groove. \u00a0Mostly because the next time I pick up the paintbrush, I feel rusty, even though it&#8217;s been only a few weeks. \u00a0But, I wanted to start painting again, and I really want to finish a fruits\/veggies series that I am doing as a belated wedding gift for my friends Terrence &amp; Liz. \u00a0I have one painting left, and I am psyched out because I started with this painting and it turned out horribly. \u00a0So, instead of jumping back in to that painting, I decided to do a fast, easy painting.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-147\" href=\"http:\/\/www.jsgreene.com\/blog\/?attachment_id=147\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-147\" title=\"Purple Hyacinth Bulb\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.jsgreene.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/purple_hyacinth-236x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"236\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>Hence, the Purple Hyacinth Bulb. \u00a0I bought this bulb at the nursery down the street, mostly because I loved the clear vase&#8230;and I thought it would be cool to grow something. \u00a0So, on a sunny afternoon, I got out all of my stuff and decided to paint. \u00a0I did something different in this piece &#8212; I tried pen &amp; ink, without using pencil. \u00a0I usually draw out a detailed sketch in light pencil and then paint over it. \u00a0I have tried pen &amp; ink before, but have always been disappointed on how the pen runs when I put the paint to the paper and it&#8217;s hard for me to lay pen on paper and not be able to erase.<\/p>\n<p>So, I tried it as the setting sun was coming through the window, illuminating the vase &amp; bulb, and I think it&#8217;s ok. \u00a0It&#8217;s not my favorite, but I do like how the colors blend together and define the lines. \u00a0I found defining the roots of the bulb and the various colors in the vase to be difficult, but it&#8217;s not bad, especially for an hour-long drawing\/painting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Since I don&#8217;t have a regular studio space, I don&#8217;t paint regularly. \u00a0Towards the end of Christmas time, I painted a lot &#8212; an Easter painting for Glenmary (that post will come out in April, since the painting is secret &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jsgreene.com\/blog\/?p=129\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[18,61,144,146,242,260,287,335,378],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.jsgreene.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/129"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.jsgreene.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.jsgreene.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.jsgreene.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.jsgreene.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=129"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.jsgreene.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/129\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.jsgreene.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=129"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.jsgreene.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=129"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.jsgreene.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=129"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
